We have had a wonderful first two weeks together in Room 203. We are fortunate to have a great group of learners!
Upcoming Dates:
MAP (Measure of Academic Progress) testing will be this week. Wednesday morning for reading and Thursday afternoon for math.
Reading:
For the past two weeks we have using the descriptive language in our stories to Visualize what we are reading. Students connect more to what they read by painting mental pictures in their minds based on language from the text. We have also been practicing the comprehension strategies of sequencing the events of the story and analyzing how the characters change throughout a story.
We have also been working on answering questions based on our texts using complete sentences by including part of the questions in our answers. We are writing strong, thorough answers by finding evidence and support in the stories.
Math
Our first week of math was spent creating a survey, collecting data, and during that data into a bar graph and pictograph. Then we talked about the different problem solving strategies we will use this year to solve story problems including draw a pictures, make a list or chart, write a number sentence, find a pattern, and act it out. We practiced highlighting key information in problems and each of these strategies. We are now into our Numeration unit where we will review place value and ways to represent a number in multiple ways.
We have also begun our time fact practice. The goals for first trimester are 100 + and - problems within 5 minutes.
