Lego Robotics
We started Lego Construction with Mrs.Wilcox on January 23, 2015. We were building a spinner to find out how unbalanced force works. We were trying to see how long our spinner spun. We each had our own job. The jobs were 1 or 2 people were the builders, 1 person was the part manager, and 1 was the Construction Manager. We had a lot of fun at Lego Construction. - Lilie, Ronit, Darius, Nicolette
Writing
Over the past weeks we have been making a book review. What we did first was read a book. Then we wrote about it. After that we printed it and made a paper book out of it. Then we went on the computer and searched the book cover and typed the name of the book. Then we glued the images on the paper book. After, we made a picture of us and put it so it would look like we were reading it. - Tommy, Angel, Michael, Ava
Math
We made multiplication fortune tellers. We also have fun doing kakooma and KenKen. Our class finished our lesson with multiplication, we have also been doing lots of division lessons...! The class does challenge work after finishing other math or math programs. The class does a lot of learning with all kinds of math puzzles and problems that makes us smarter. This week we also wrote multiplication patterns. The class has smarter brains since the beginning of third grade because she is an awesome teacher that teaches us a lot of stuff. Math is fun and exciting with Mrs. McLelland. - Natalie, Dariana, Anneliese, Christopher
Science
In science, we have been learning about force and motion. We learned that most machines are made up of six types of simple machines: the wedge, the inclined plane, the pulley, the wheel and axle, the lever, and the screw. These are the 6 simple machines that make up most machines.
We have experimented with the push pull meter and the spring scale. We measured how much force it took to pick up a book, push a full soda can, and pick up scissors. This is what we did in our force and motion unit. - Abra, Katrina, Nick, Isabella
Author Visit
This week we had an author visit. The visiting author was Barbara (Barb) Rosenstock. First we talked about how she made the book, The Camping Trip that Changed America. She told us that she thought that her first draft was flawless, but she got 25 rejected letters. Then she showed us how large a Sequoia tree is. Next she showed us the two main characters, Teddy Roosevelt and John Muir. The author visit was amazing. -Camden, Ellen, Claire, Abigail
